The other reviews already tell a lot about functions and properties. What I would like to add are my motives to buy this camera and the experience of the last holiday.
I was looking for some time after a second camera for DSLR. This should breast pocket fit and robust, water resistant at best. Then came the FT1. Since I was skeptical whether the 3m waterproof with enough reserves. I thought for a long time back and forth, but decided to delay a purchase. Lo and behold, out came the FT2 and promised to meet (almost) all my wishes!
So I made my own in May and ordered a gift. Shortly thereafter, offered a holiday the opportunity to gain practical experience.
And I was thrilled! The image quality is much better than if I was afraid of the small optics, the system works quite well and reliably.
I had with the whole time the FT2 in the breast pocket and was able to make a lot of good snapshots (also because of the very short-time). The battery life is fine, I had to download about 3-4 days (on average about 100 photos, 7 min video per day, and thoroughly consider results and play around). What I was particularly impressed, however, the underwater feature! So I was finally able to hold the jokes my kids in and under water!
underwater is recommended in any case the appropriate scene mode set, because that is the blue cast compensated under water by a strong support from red and there are (if the light matches and the water not too dim) is great, colorful pictures possible. I was really surprised what is possible for results.
Small criticism Is that the display's underwater by reflecting a very small viewing angle, so best just looking from the back on it, or to target by feel (because of the page may see eh nothing more), which with a little practice quite well work.
Another wish came with the HD movie recording option to pass. The fact that the sound is not optimal, have already found other. About water, I need the function only in exceptional cases, as I prefer to leave anyway for the video to a "real" video camera and under water is the result of FT2 in terms of sound enough.

And that the AVCHD-light format with editing programs (such as Edius) can be further processed (I was beginning not quite sure if this applies light only on the "little" 720s HD resolution, or whether a special form of AVCHD is behind it, maybe the problem does what is not the case). So I can finally add my movies to footage from the wet areas where I would take the video camera before!
Sure there are others in the price range Compact, which provide a perfect picture, but not in the combination of robust, compact and waterproof!
All in all I am very satisfied and would buy FT2 even after the practice test again.
I chose the camera because I wanted a robust camera, which is also a motorcycle tour (even if you "duped" is correct) and is the "delicate" children hands of my daughters. My Nikon (D300 with the "necessary" pool of lenses), I would not be used for that purpose. The Panasonic is TZ6 my wife for me too sensitive.
I had some concerns, which represent how the noise performance of the sensor would. 14 MP at 1 / 2, 33 " already critical. Of course the picture more noisy than my Nikon - but not much more than the 10MP of TZ6. As long as one sets the camera to ISO 80 or ISO 100, the pictures are great. At ISO 400 and above I expect from such a small sensor, nothing more - and one should also expect nothing more.
The image quality is surprisingly good. I am completely satisfied.
For underwater shots probably a bit of exercise is one of them, but then great photos are available - as always - provided enough light. In the shaded area of the indoor pool is very slightly blurred. In the sun at the pool and under water is possible (almost) everything.
The camera reacts very sensitive to scattered light - this is the case of compact cameras, but relatively normal and get over to the other great benefits for good.
Strong Gegenlich leads to the "silhouette" and not as some DSLRs by "active Lighting" balanced. If you know it, you can use the effect too good.
The Auto (s) and the other shooting modes (in addition to "Under water") also make a very neat appearance.
As long as you pay attention you want the camera to ISO 200 is in sensitivity, it's really great pictures. Also, macro photography and portraits as well as plants with beautiful pictures Unique to background blur is possible.
The FT2 is ideal for snapshots with really any occasion - party, pool, beach, snow, Action. As long as you are inside the flash uses here the results are very useful, even when the flash - as usual compact - only a few meters (max. 2-3m) illuminates far.
My daughters (6, 8, 10), my wife and I have fun with the camera. And now even the smallest can safely "go and take pictures."
After I had my good TZ finally lost to the water (cracks in the waterproof case), I have long had difficulty with the idea to buy a camera.
When I saw the FT2, I realized that this camera has to be: Even a Lumix, Waterproof to 10m, at least a little wide.
Disadvantages:
- Zoom: The fact that it has no large zoom bothers me no - that is (in my opinion) to unnecessary.
- Appearance: Visually I like the camera did not - mainly because there are no black. The form does not look like much in my eyes. But of course Matter of taste.
- Brightness: This point, of course, affect the image quality considerably. However, there is naturally a compact camera without a retractable lens and I'm pleasantly surprised.
- Buttons: The zoom and shutter release are gewöhnungsbedrüftig. I am particularly irritated by the little resistance they offer. They are also very close beieinader and equal,

Advantages:

Conclusion: I grieve still behind my TZ, but this camera is great and I would buy it now again.
So, yesterday was the ft2 - Makes no impression that it drops from 2 meters could catch, I wanted to try it too. I started immediately to make photos and sometimes videos. I then reviewed the evening the results.
huge minus for the videos is the microphone. because we constantly hear groaning and sounds of the fingers on the housing. I have kept very carefully the camera. the noises are always there for me and therefore not usable.
photos are ok but a tz7 is better. is also a video recording tz7 better!
then, the camera goes back today .....
either I now have a hole tz7 or 10 ...
for those who are looking for a hybrid will be disappointed by the sound recordings. if you want to use the camera for photos and water, then there is no better choice ...
